A warm winter’s welcome from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. The days are growing ever colder and shorter, autumn colours have given way to frosty lawns and the sculptural shapes of bare trees and shrubs. But there's plenty happening at the Botanics this festive season… 
The Botanics turns magically green this Christmas when, each weekend from 6 – 21 December, our Green Santa hosts festive activities for all ages, from storytelling and craft workshops to themed walks and carol singing. See the full programme of events on our website. 
Shopping at the Botanics has now been made even easier with the launch of our new online shopping service. Visit www.rbgeshop.org.uk and browse a wonderful selection of gifts, books, stationery, garden supplies and more. Alternatively, head to the Botanics Shop where you’ll find a great range of Christmas gifts for all ages. All profits from the Botanics Shop go directly to support the work of RBGE.

Sat 6 December, 11am Science or art? Nomenclature is one of the most fascinating subjects. Discover the science and meaning behind the naming of plants on this guided walk. Tickets £4. See event details on our website. 
Fri 5 & 12 December, 2pm Enter the Forest Room, transformed into a magical grotto, for tales of deepest winter and Christmas. For older children and adults. See event details on our website. 
Sun 7 December, 2pm Why is it so dark for so long in winter? Where do all the flowers go? Find out all this and why animals love winter time. See event details on our website. 
It might be nippy outside, but in the Glasshouses it’s as hot and steamy as ever! Tour around the world’s tropical and temperate regions to see exotics in bloom in the middle of winter. End a brisk winter’s walk through the Garden with a coffee and cake, or a bit of lunch. Pop into the Terrace Café and see what’s on today’s menu! 
Until 11 January 2009 Photographer Allan Pollok-Morris takes visitors on a journey documenting contemporary Scottish heritage in works by garden designers, architects, plants people and artists within the country's varied landscape. See exhibition details on our website. 
Until 8 February 2009 This exhibition at Inverleith House features colour photographs of horticulture in action at RBGE taken by artist Rosita McKenzie, who is blind.
